While designing the website, you need to consider many factors to make a great site. The process of designing a website is known as Web Designing. It encompasses different aspects, including web page layout, content production, graphic design, and many more.

While the term “web design” can refer to the entire process of creating a website, It mainly refers to the front-end design part.

A well-designed website can help your business stand out from its competitors, attract new customers, and build brand loyalty. Conversely, a poorly designed website can damage your company’s reputation.

To design your website well, you must have to avoid these 7 most common mistakes that many web designers commit.

Most Common Mistakes to Avoid while Web Designing

Before I share the common mistakes that many designers do, I would like to give you a disclaimer that I am not a professional web designer but I handle the design-related things of all of my blogs and websites. So, as per my learning, I am going to share these mistakes that you should avoid.

1. Making it all About You

Your website is not about you, it’s about your users. It’s important to remember that when designing and creating content for your site. Everything should be focused on providing a great experience for the users who visit your website. Every business’ ultimate goal is to convert users into customers, and it happens only when you make things easier on your website for users.

2. Creating a Site that’s Difficult to Navigate

As I have already mentioned about making things easier for users, you must not make navigation very difficult that users won’t be able to find the content that they are looking for. If they can’t figure out how to navigate your site, they’re likely to leave. It’s important to have a navigation that is easy to understand and use. Otherwise, you may lose potential customers.

3. Not Optimizing for Different Devices

With the increasing use of mobile devices, different-sized tablets, and screens, it’s important to make sure your site is optimized for them. That means you must have to make your website responsive so that it works well on any screen size. So, that user experience would be seamless regardless of the screen size they are using the access your website.

responsive design

Let me share my story related to website responsive design…

Being a blogger, I have many blogs and when this thing came, all of my sites were not optimized for different devices, and at a time, I was not able to invest in buying a responsive template, So I learned how to make a site responsive, and made my site responsive back then. If you are not making your site responsive, you are losing a lot of traffic and potential customers.

4. Bombarding Visitors with Pop-Ups and Ads

Users like websites that are cleanly designed. Nobody likes being bombarded with pop-ups and irritating ads. It’s important to have a balance of content and advertising on your site. Too much of ads or pop-ups will drive users away. So make sure to have your website neat and clean without many ads.

For example, I earn from advertising on my blog so it is not possible to remove the ads completely because this is my bread & butter. So, what I do is, keep the ads on my site as per Google’s allowed ad types and number of ad units. So, if you really have to show ads, make sure to keep them in a way that doesn’t affect the user experience.

5. Not Making Your Content Easy to Read

Your content should be easy to read and understand. Use short paragraphs and breaks between sections. Use headlines and lists to break up the text. And make sure the font is large enough to be easily readable. If users will find it difficult to read the content, they will go away. Remember, the content is the key to successful web design.

In the early days of blogging, I was not taking care of this, and I used to keep the font size smaller, I never thought of breaking content into smaller paragraphs, and many things that were not helping users to read the content easily. Gradually, I learned and made things better by keeping the content in sections, and in small paragraphs, increasing font size, and changing many things to offer a better user experience.

6. Having a Slow Loading Site

Users are impatient and if your site takes too long to load, they’re likely to leave. Make sure your site is optimized for speed by compressing images and minimizing CSS and JS codes. You can also try using Content Delivery Network(CDN) which makes your site load faster. You should also try investing in VPS or dedicated web hosting; they are costlier but they offer better loading speed for your site.

Before I moved to Cloudways, where I use Digital Ocean VPS server, I used shared hosting which was comparatively slow. So, as per my experience, I always recommend you to go with a VPS server or dedicated hosting if you can afford it. That is the best investment you can do for your business website.

7. Bad Stock Images

Nothing screams amateur like bad stock images. If you’re going to use stock images, make sure they are high quality and fit in with the overall design of your site. Otherwise, it’s better to just use original photos.

Final Words

These are just some of the most common web design mistakes to avoid. By paying attention to the details and making sure your site is user-friendly, you can create a successful website.

The whole article’s conclusion is to make your website user-friendly which would improve the user experience. So, do everything that can make things easier for the users who visit your website. And, that is what you have to do.
