But, it would be interesting to notice that GTA 5 is being introduced on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is about to happen in 2021, and that should perhaps indicate a possibility of the availability of cross-platform features on the game. If Rockstar decides to add the feature to the game, that should ideally happen at the app development stage.
The two new versions will come with a few features that are not available on the game as it stands now. For example, we would expect the addition of the cross-platform feature quite possibly. However, we would not be able to guarantee it in any way. Even Rockstar has not shared any update about any such possibility.
Rockstar has continued to support the GTA Online Franchise with new Heists and missions. We do not expect the developer to stop the support for the title just like that. With plenty of online games supporting cross-platform compatibility, it can be expected to come with the functionality shortly. The huge competing titles like Destiny 2 adding support for the cross platform can be yet another reason why Rockstar would (and should) consider adding cross platform compatibility.
There is yet another indication to prove the possibility of cross platform performance being offered quite soon. Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, maybe an indicator from that perspective. He claimed that “the company doesn’t just port titles over, but that it wants to make the game different for new releases”. This mindset or a change in the mindset can be yet another indicator to prove the possibility of cross-platform compatibility on GTA Online.
It may be noticed that GTA Online is available on several platforms such as PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. It will also be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions due for release on November 11, 2021.
So Can We Expect the Cross-Platform Feature on GTA Online?
GTA Online has been the most successful title for Rockstar. The lack of cross-platform compatibility has not hurt its fortunes in any way whatsoever. That would perhaps explain why Rockstar is not adding cross-platform support for the game. When something is working efficiently for you, it should make no sense to invest in adding extra support. More so when you are not sure whether there would be any buyers for the new update.
Of course, there are a vast number of players who may be looking for cross-platform compatibility, but it may not be worthy of time and effort. That can be why Rockstar does not want to add the functionality.
