What Does DTP Mean in Texting? {Meaning, Usage, and Examples}

The full form of DTP  is “Disturbing in the Peace” which seems to be the most common full form of the abbreviation DTP. But, in the age we live in, there are so many chatting platforms that are being used by millions of people worldwide, there might be many different full forms of one single abbreviation. The same goes for DTP too, yes, there are so many different meanings of DTP out there.

Chattings are generally informal, and there can be different meanings of some short forms, and at other places it can be something else. So, the context becomes more important when we talk about abbreviations. In the context that we are talking about, the meaning may become different. Let me give you an example, if I say “he is DTP” while studying in the group, the meaning “Disturbing in the peace” is perfect, but when I say “My son got DTP vaccine today”, there DTP means “Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis”.

What Does DTP Mean in Texting

That is why context is very important while using any abbreviation.

You can use DTP both as Acronyms and Abbreviations as per the situation. Oh, wait! Let me tell you that Acronyms and Abbreviations are not the same but have some differences.

Acronyms are abbreviations that can have different meanings and highly depend on the backup sentences. Whereas an Abbreviation is the short form of a word or phrase with complete meaning without any backup sentence. Point to note that every Acronym can be an Abbreviation, but every Abbreviation may not be an Acronym.

Although I am finished explaining DTP, I would like to tell you one thing that many of my readers and friends have asked a lot of times and that is “Why People Actually Use Short Forms While Chatting”?

So, here is the explanation for the same.

In the early days, when there were not many social media apps like WhatsApp, FB, and others, people used phone’s default messaging app to send SMS which used to cost for every message. And, generally, per SMS was having some limit of characters around 1000 I guess. So, in those days, to say more in one single SMS, people started using short forms in texting which helped save lots of characters. That was good to save money as well because if you use short forms, you can say a lot in single SMS rather than 2 SMS if you don’t use short forms. Gradually, it became a habit, and even now, when not every single message costs you on WhatsApp or other chat apps, people still use short forms. Because it looks cool, and also, saves you from typing more.  Plus saves a lot of time too if you think on a bigger scale.

Final Words

There are many meanings and usages of DTP in different situations. I have explained a few that I know and have used.

So, using such short forms is cool, and saves you from typing more letters. So, save time, and save resources. Enjoy texting!
