All About Electric Scooter Top Speed & Acceleration

Transportation has been evolving since the past decade. There have been so many changes that it is hard to imagine that it was only introduced in the previous century. It has changed the way people lived their lives. Before, the most common modes of transportation were animals.  They may have been on the streets, but it was possible to walk with them as well. With the introduction of the modern vehicle, they have dominated the street. It would continue to be that way for a long time, but it had led to some problems.

The Joys and Pains of Living in the City

Congestion is one of the biggest issues in most cities around the world. It is not just because of the increasing population. Due to the affordability of most vehicles, there are a lot of people who buy them. According to this article, one of the problems with most vehicles is they take up too much space on the road. Sure, public transportations like buses are bigger but there are only a few of them. Cars, on the other hand, just take up more of the streets. With the potential increase in carbon emissions from using these vehicles, there has been a movement in veering away from them.

Bicycles seemed to take their place, as there have been many laws and ordinances passed around the world to allow them back to the streets. However, they are quite heavy and can be a burden to bring around with you. It is a great choice for exercise though, but not so much for general transportation. For something that just carries two people at a limit, it is not very efficient. However, there is another option that you can take to ease your travel time especially in the tight corners of the city.

Alternatives that Became Realities

When you think of scooters, the first thing that may come to your mind is a child’s toy. You step on it and balance yourself like on a skateboard, but it is comparably easier. It has an adult version though, and you can use it to navigate yourself in the streets of your city. There are even some companies that let you rent them for every minute of use. It depends on your location, but it is quite possible to have them now for your needs. You can also buy your own online, and most of them are already powered by electricity.

Now, you might be wondering how fast it can get. It is, after all, one of the ways that it can be useful is the speed it can take you to your destination. Most of the best scooter models available in the market can go as fast as 20 miles per hour. The fastest to be recorded was at 60 miles per hour. However, you need to take note that speed was recorded on a scooter that was made with carbon fibre and had a special engine attached to it. Most of the ones that are being rented are usually on the average side. Don’t get us wrong though, there are some electric scooters that go fast. You also need to consider important things that you need to know before buying them.

Before Buying an E-Scooter

  • City Laws

This is, by far, one of the biggest issues concerning these electric scooters. For one, not all cities allow the use of it on public streets. They are not even allowed on the bike lanes since these are just for bicycles. In some areas where there are no actual laws against its use, you can see some who use it on the sidewalks. However, there seems to be some risk to this as you might hit some pedestrians. Before purchasing one, you need to know the rules in your city regarding the use of scooters. If there is none, then you still need to be careful. Also, make sure to register your electric scooter if that is a part of the process.

  • Speed Limits

Here’s another one concerning rules and regulations but this time with the “allowable speed.” Even if electric scooters are allowed in your area, it is still under the control of the government. For one, the average allowable speed for most cities is 25 miles per hour. In comparison, the average walking speed is around 3 mph. It is still a considerable amount of speed but far from the 50 and 60 as well. However, you can still have this kind of speed for your private enjoyment. If you have a wide yard with smooth or concrete sections, then you can still enjoy these speeds

  • Safety Equipment

If you have already decided on buying one, you need to have some safety gear. Regarding city or country laws, this might still be on the vague side. This means that there are some places where you can use this in public without any kind of protection. However, you will still use this in public and you might not know what’s going to happen. With all the noise and distractions, you might be caught in an accident. Read more about this here: https://www.allenandallen.com/moped-and-scooter-safety/.

  • Buying vs. Renting

Lastly, this would again depend on the city that you are currently living in. If no rules are legalizing or prohibiting it, then feel free to buy. You should always remember that this can still change. The people who are using it are increasing day by day because of how effective it is as a single person transport. Once the government notices the trend, then they might do something about it. Here in the USA, only a few cities have some kind of rule about riding e-scooters. If there is a service that lets you rent it, you might want to try it out first.

E-scooters might be the new way of transportation, but there are still some considerations that you need to know before you can use it. Remember to keep yourself safe as well, and follow the rules as they are there for a reason. If you feel like this can give you what you want, then give it a go! It might be the thing that you need to navigate the city even on your own.
