iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL Review + Giveaway – The Budget Beast – Indian Shipping Only

iBall is a domestic electronic company of India, and currently it tops the list of Tablet PC Manufacturers, and this is declared in a report by IDC(International Data Corporation) (Source).

Though, it tops the list tablet manufacturers, there are many other manufacturers like Samsung, Micromax, etc. in the market which are making the competition fierce.

Whatever the competitive scenario might be, we are solely concerned with the quality of smartphones and Tablets at a minimum possible price. Here I review the iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL Tablet which is one of the latest and best tablets in India.

Most smartphone experts argue that most of the budget tablets have major issues, and are not durable for the long term. However, the case seems otherwise with the iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL. With its launch recently in January 2016, I think it can change the way people think about budget tablets in general. I have used this gadget and I can say that it is one of the best tablets in India in this price range.

Let me write down some great features of iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL:

Inside the Box

All that you see in the image comes into a box. There’s the tablet of course charger, earphones, Y-cable, and an OTG cable.

Design

iBall Gorgeo 4GL is of the general tablet size, i.e. 7 inches. However, the compact width of 10.11 mm makes it appealing. It’s unfair to compare it with smartphones like Vivo X5 Max, OPPO R5 or Gionee Elife S5.1. Firstly, it’s quite dumb to compare a smartphone with a tablet for such a point. Secondly, iBall Gorgeo 4GL isn’t made for this purpose. And lastly, for what reason do you need a slim tablet anyway?

The back of the tablet is pretty decent. It’s made of plastic with patterns. You can find the iBall Slide logo along with some specifications on the back cover.

Operating System

iBall Gorgeo 4GL comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop. There has been no update from the company regarding the Marshmallow upgrade.

It has a clean User Interface – the one you see on smartphones such as Xolo, Micromax, Lava, Intex, etc.

Connectivity

iBall Slide Gorgeo is quite decent in terms of connectivity, with all the basic features you need to get going. There’s WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and A-GPS. It even supports USB OTG (On-The-Go)!

It is a 4G Tablet with all India LTE bands support. 4G stands for 4^th Generation which is the latest and more advanced than 2G and 3G. 4G network has been launched in India but to use that you need a device that has 4G support. So, having iBall Slide Gorgeo would be good because you will be able to use 4G that is ultra-fast network. 4G is said to be 10 times faster than 3G. So you know how much benefit you get when have access to 4G. You can download movies, songs, etc. in no time. Even, video calling experience is great with 4G.

The device supports two SIM cards at a time – the first one a normal SIM and the second a mini one. It’s a significant advantage as I can use whichever type of SIM I want.

Performance

iBall Slide Gorgeo is way better than its competitors in terms of performance. Though it just has 1GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A53 processor, it runs smoothly and without any lags in most cases. I have opened more than 13 apps(hangout, Whatsapp, Facebook, Dead Target, Dead Trigger, Gmail, torch, subway surfer, etc.)while using it, and I didn’t find any problem in switching from one app to another. To my utter surprise, this tablet was running smoothly! Moreover, I even played Subway Surfer, Dead Trigger and Dead Target for more than 40 minutes continuously, yet the smartphone didn’t heat up. There was a bit of warmth I felt, but that too was quite negligible. Such performance is very appreciated and unexpected in devices of budget range. This surely makes it one of the best Tablets in India at this low price.

Talking about videos, I watched them continuously for about 3 hours. There was no heating issues, even the battery usage was minimum (around 15% battery was drained)! I have tried watching videos of 480P to 1080P and all of them played like a charm!

Calling

It’s quite rare to use a tablet for calling. But no worries! iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL provides decent call quality. For testing, I held myself for more than 30 minutes on the call. No issues detected and the best part, the tablet didn’t heat up! For sure, if you talk for an hour, you may notice the device getting warm a bit, but almost all devices get warmed or heated if you call for such longer duration.

Battery

Battery is one thing that every user considers while buying a smartphone or Tablet. Fortunately, Gorgeo 4GL boasts of a huge 3500 mAh Li-Polymer battery, which lasts very long. Once I kept the phone on standby for around 27 hours after charging it fully. Though apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Hangouts and Gmail were running in the background using Wifi, the battery drained by only mere 6%!

However, I didn’t appreciate the fact that the battery is non-removable as I personally prefer devices having a removable battery, for it can be replaced with a new one whenever I run out of it! Also, charging the battery takes quite long. It took me around 4 hours to reach from 0 to 100%. But, it is also that case that the battery is of 3500mAh so it would naturally take some extra time to get charged fully.

iBall has added a “Smart Power Saving” feature, which can be accessed in settings. If you ever run in short of battery and have no access to a charger, you can enable this feature to conserve battery power.

The battery quality indeed makes it to the list of best tablets in India

Camera

iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL has to 8 MP Rear Camera and 5 MP Front Camera respectively. The tablet has almost all the basic pre-loaded camera features you need: autofocus, face detection, multi-angle, panorama, etc. Talking about the LED flash, it has LED Flash for both cameras! It’s India’s first ever tablet with Front LED Flash! You can now take selfies even in low light!

The camera quality is average, and that is completely normal for a Tablet. I have captured a few photos of my Sister’s Son that you can see below:

Memory

Gorgeo 4GL comes with 8 GB ROM and 1 GB RAM. Pretty decent, I don’t think you will have issues with it. The sad fact is that around 4.92 GB is consumed by the operating system and pre-loaded apps. You just have around 3.08 GB free. That’s actually not a big issue when you’re given an expandable micro SD card support upto 32 GB.

Pre-loaded Apps

iBall Slide Gorgeo 4G is the first model in iBall Slide range to be pre-installed with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel apps.

It has a lot of pre-installed apps or bloatware. On one hand you’re given the essentials such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Times of India, 360 Security Lite, Newshunt, Accuweather, etc. and games like Asphalt Nitro, Bubble Bash 3, Motocross Extreme (mostly by Gameloft) on the other. They might be an advantage, sure, but they are the culprits of hugely filled internal storage.

SAR Value

SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) is a calculation of the amount of radiation absorbed into body tissues while talking on the phone. Higher SAR value can increase the risk of diseases like Cancer. The maximum value limit allowed in India is 1.6 W/Kg.

Other Features of this best Tablet in India

You can have a set of 5 detachable lenses with mSLR concept compatible with iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL’s Camera is optionally available (To be purchased separately).

It offers Wire-free FM Radio with Antenna and Multi-languages keyboard support.

It is also the first Indian Tablet that comes with 2 USBs on Y-cable. Y-cable is something that everyone needs as when you connect your tablet using it, charging and data exchange both processes happen simultaneously without any lag.

Since it has the Stock UI, you have the well-known swipe lock screen. Swipe from the left and it opens the phone dialer directly, do it from the right and it opens the camera. You find it on every smartphone running stock Android at least, but isn’t that an advantage?

I personally became a fan of the off-screen gestures. They even work when the screen is off (not locked)! You’re allowed to configure up to 5 gestures for different apps!

Besides, the tablet is bundled with Hungama Pro Subscription for 30 days. It supports 21 Indian languages such as Hindi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada and more.

Price

iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL is priced at around INR 6,999/- that is available in your nearby retail stores. I believe the above-mentioned features are really a lot at such a mediocre price range! That is the reason why I would like to call it the “Budget Beast”!

My Verdict

I have used a few highly priced Tablets, and a few that are priced low such as iBall Slide Gorgeo 4GL. And, based on the experience with them, I can say that this tablet justifies its price completely.
