5 Ways Technology Can Protect You

While older generations may complain about the so-called negative impact technology has had on the world, nobody can deny the benefits we have all experienced through these advancements. Technology has changed the way we live our lives for the better and has offered us new ways of socialising, entertaining ourselves, working, learning, and also staying safe. Various kinds of threats can become less of a problem through the use of certain gadgets and software that offer us protection. Here are a few examples.

Your Home

There are few things more important to us than our physical safety and the safety of our families and homes. Technology has advanced to new heights when it comes to security systems for our homes and our businesses too. Various types of home alarm systems exist to suit every level of protection that different households might require. Alarms, electric fencing, camera monitoring and more, all exist to protect us from physical threats and give us peace of mind.

Your Physical Safety

There are endless apps and software programmes that exist to make our lives easier. This is not to mention the development of apps and software which contribute to our safety. Many such apps exist which allow us to send a GPS location to friends or family members when we’re travelling alone or on a night out, so they can keep track of whether we’re safe and take note of any unusual movement. These same apps allow us to alert authorities of emergencies with panic buttons and emergency calls which could potentially save lives.

Your Car

Similar to the tracking apps mentioned for personal safety, tracking devices also exist for our cars. When you have a tracking device installed in your vehicle, you can rest assured that it’s traceable in the event of theft or a hijacking. Furthermore, automotive technology has advanced to make modern motor vehicles incredibly safe to protect us from crimes like hijackings, but also contribute to the protection of our physical safety in the event of a collision.

Your Finances

Protecting your finances comes in many different forms, many of which are made better and easier through technology. Though no longer considered a new invention, ATMs and online banking changed the game when it comes to physically protecting your money. Carrying cash can be a dangerous habit, so working with your money on a debit or credit card is a much safer option, especially now that it’s so easy to use your banking app to cancel a card.

Your Mental Health

Especially since the start of the pandemic, technology has been able to support us mentally when we haven’t had many other options. Providing a means of social interaction, entertainment, and a way to continue working was an important factor in protecting and maintaining the mental health of many people over the past year. On top of this, technology has provided a means for people struggling to still receive therapy sessions via online meetings and calls – an opportunity that proved to be a lifesaver for many.

These are just a few of the many ways that technology has been a positive addition to our safety and protection in various aspects of our lives.
