What Do You Gain From Fiber Optic Internet?

Fiber optics Internet has been in the commercial sector for a couple of decades now. Due to the higher costs involved, very few ISPs were delivering fiber optics-based internet, and there were very few takers only. Those who paid extra and subscribed for the high-speed internet gained significantly in many aspects of their business. With emerging technology, fiber optics broadband has also become more feasible to the common people and hence, they have become a common connection option for most of the homemakers. The homemakers are happy now with their choice of channels on TV and a few more that they can see over the internet. They can now browse a little more in high-speed, watch movies online without buffering, play games online without getting disconnected and all these come at affordable rates. The commercial users get reliable and seamless internet connection which is more secure and offers a higher range of bandwidth.

Speed

Speed is definitely the number one reason most of the subscribers are willing to pay more for the fiber optics broadband. Time is the most expensive factor of people’s lives today as they cannot buy it at any cost. They pay for a high-speed internet and make the most out of the connection they have. Speed saves a lot of time, and that matters a lot to people who value time over money. Ultimately, the ones who spend a little more on fiber optics internet only tend to gain time and money because of high speed that ranges between 100 Mbps to 1000 Mbps as against the usual range of 2 Mbps to 100 Mbps. Homes and offices are happier now with a faster connection that gets work done much faster than expected. Productivity, at office and home, increases considerably because of speed.

Dedicated and Reliable Connection

This remains one of the most advantageous features of fiber optic cables. Unlike the telephone and television cables, the fiber optic cables make the biggest impact because of the dedicated lines to each customer. There’s no interference in the lines which means the connection is faultless. Seamless connections also add to better functioning in an office environment. It reduces the delays in downloading and uploading data on the Internet. Moreover, intermittent interruptions will add to the frustration of the users which makes the customer disgruntled. They will lose their precious time and the ISP will lose their precious customers.

Less Interference

There’s very little to no external signal interference while using fiber optics cable for the internet broadband. This is the main reason it provides greater speed and a consistent connection experience even in the remotest areas. Since the cables are not shared with telephone or television connections, the customers enjoy a dedicated connection exclusively for the Internet. Since the cables are not shared with the neighbors, which is the common case with the conventional connections, customers can enjoy seamless Internet, which is fast and safe.

More Secure

Since these are dedicated lines used exclusively for broadband connectivity, they are very difficult to breach security. The data is split and carried through hundreds of tiny glass-coated cables at one go which makes it very difficult for any type of security threat to the data. But when it comes to television and telephone cable internet, they can be easily breached, and your data security can be compromised.

Better Productivity

Productivity definitely increases when you have speed and consistency in the internet connection. There’s no time wasted waiting for data to upload or download. There’s no buffering time also when you are checking something online. You can make use of maximum resources online when you have a fast and more reliable internet which is more secure than your copper cable connection.

More options with better bandwidth

Fiber optics internet comes with better bandwidth options which can be really helpful when using them for heavy uploads and downloads. Many organizations find it the most reliable and feasible internet solution because of the multitude of options they give the user and the amazing user experience. One such life-saving application is the healthcare industry. Doctors and patients can interact with each other without having to wait in the long queues and tedious travel involved through video conferencing over a seamless connection.

Competitive Pricing

Even though the rates for subscribing to Fiber Optics internet used to be very high, with continuous research and development, the cost of the cables has come down considerably, which has allowed ISPs like Bigpipe to provide the service in more competitive rates that can be afforded by the normal residential as well as small enterprise subscribers.

The Future

For the technology buffs, fiber optics internet is a comparatively upcoming technology used for broadband connections. Since all the other aspects of a high-speed internet broadband such as the speed, security and consistency are also good as compared to the conventional connections; this new technology is here to stay and evolve. Those who prefer to keep themselves updated with the latest that technology can offer, fiber optics-based internet is definitely a good option to invest on. The conditions are only going to improve over the next few years as many companies are researching on how to make use of the single fiber optic cable to deliver complete data solutions to the customer. This will include a single connection for seamless internet, telephone, and television cable without adversely affecting each or any of these services. It also supports the currently trending Internet of Things or IoT revolution.

With so many advantages and more, fiber optics internet is the way ahead with the ISPs across the world. While they are able to avoid most of the bottlenecks that hinder the commercial use of the fiber optics, they are also able to come up with an interesting low-cost solution too to allure the home-based customers, which is proving to be a lucrative market for the ISPs. The advent and emergence of IoT have also been a catalyst in bettering fiber optics cable-based internet in the residential sector.

  • Hello Erik,

The best part about Fiber internet is you get the exact promised speeds.

I am using fiber but not high speed plan as it is a bit expensive.

Even though the other isp is offering 5 times to this speed, I ignored it as it DSL and you will experience hiccups quite often.

    Very Informative post Erik.

    Have a great day.

  • Great write up Erik! Fiber optic internet is amazing, the usual problem for not getting a fast internet is the service provider. So, it is also important that you choose carefully the right internet provider for your home or business.

  • The reality is, is that our telecommunication system is rubbish and over congested and so that is why the NBN was though up but NBN co, will use existing infrastructure such as the Telstras HFC and copper wires compared to the “fiber to the node – which is the only way the consumer will get reliable and competitive pricing”.
