Siddhant Vats – Creator of the first Android based Smartwatch

Years before Google officially announced the Android Wear project, there was a guy whose company was working on manufacturing the first Android-based smartwatch ever. This smart watch went over to be sold in 110 countries, and it was one of the very first smartwatch based on Android to see the face of the earth ever.

The smartwatch was launched by a company named Androidly, which was founded by Siddhant Vats. In this post, we are going to take a look at what Siddhant Vats has done so far in his life and how all that he has done is going to affect our world.

So, Siddhant Vats is an entrepreneur from Patna  (Bihar), India. He has quite an interesting story to tell about how he got into entrepreneurship. At the age of 19 he had already been a TEDx speaker, had co-founded Androidly, which is world’s first Android-based smartwatch company.

Apart from all this Siddhant has also been invited by Barack Obama, President of the United States of America and he also runs an NGO named Falak Foundation.

At the age of 17 years, most students in India are either preparing for their board examinations or they are confused with which course or stream they should go for in their secondary school. But Siddhant decided he would take a leave from education and go ahead to work on his dream of making a smartwatch based on Android.

At the age of 17 Siddhant co-founded Android along with Apurva Sukant and two other friends. To do this, he decided to delay his regular education by two full years that shocked not only his parents but also created quite a controversy in his family. But as per Siddhant he is a DREAMER.

The watch was launched in mid-2013 for $220, and it was being sold globally in 110 countries. It used to run on a full version of Android and could do many of the things that an Android phone did back then.

Androidly currently sells two new products and one of them is a smart watch cum fitness band and the other one is a smart watch on the same lines of the first gen smartwatch from Androidly but it runs on Android 4.0 KitKat. The designs of these watches are similar to real watches and not like other watches that just seem bulky.

Falak Foundation

The Falak Foundation was started by Siddhant’s mother. This is an NGO that works in the fields of education, health and social awareness. Siddhant start contributing and teaching in the NGO as soon as he was in the seventh standard, and he used to teach computers, mathematics and English to the children.

Siddhant says that he was able to build a Monastery in Bodh gaya, Bihar in collaboration with a monestary based in Virginia, USA. The monastery saw an attendance of at least 1000 delegates on the day of inauguration which is considered a significant success by Siddhant.

Siddhant Vats dropped out of his school to follow his dream of Androidly and today he is named as the first person whose company manufactured the first Android-based smart watch. As per him, his dreams are the factors in his life which are the source of constant motivation for him to do amazing stuff in life.

Siddhant believes that everything in life has a good ending, and it’s not good, then it is not the ending. This might sound a bit cheesy, but this is actually a good inspirational line you can remember in tough situations in life.

    What a great post on the life of Siddhant Vats. He followed his dreams and against all odds he came out ahead with his design of the first Android based smart watch for his company.

    He did wonderful things in his life so far like Falak Foundation and teaching in the NGO . He taught children how to use Computers, Mathematics and English. Building the two Monasteries. He gave back to the world and that is a beautiful thing.
