Blogging β the current craze in the teens! π Every young mind is trying to get a new name on the web & share his thoughts over it. Blogging is really a kewl way to share your views to a mass! π But in a blog post, just a black and white post with 30 character, doesnβt it look dumb?(26 alphabets and !?,.) π π Wont you all like to add more stuffs into your posts? Yup, I am talking about smileys! π π
I am not sure if I am right or wrong, but I personally feel that smileys make the post lively! π They have got the power to display your views in a better way. Although smiley are not treated as βprofessional workβ, but to me, they donβt look unsophisticated either.
Smiley Addiction
I have been soo much addicted to these smileys, that usually all my posts have smileys in them. Once I had to review a software, and I somehow ended up writing a review of a software with smileys. I realized this fact when I was pinged with a link of the review in a forum where someone had mentioned my review with the lines βreview with β¦. smileyβ! (BitDefender Free Antivirus Review) π
Psychological Effect
I really donβt know why people donβt use smileys in their writings, but 1 thing that I have observed is, when I publish a post with smileys, I get comments with smileys; and if the post is without smileys, then the comments too are without smileys! π This is an awesome psychological effect over readers! π
My Question?
I am writing this post, to ask you all bloggers, who are here to share their views on the Internet, why donβt you all use smileys in your post? β Is there any specific reason or itβs just the trend which is followed? Wont you all like to change the writing culture by getting a βsmiley writingβ?
I would be crucially waiting for the views from the bloggers about using smileys in their blog posts! π

Hi Zainil & Atish,
I totally agree with you and wonder too as to why people donβt use smilelys in their posts or comments. π
I for one love to smile, and I think it really costs nothing β instead, brings a smile to other persons face also. Somehow, the theme that I have got doesnβt enable the smile in the proper manner and the lines shift a little when I put a smile. So, I really canβt use it as much as I want to in my posts β but if you notice the comments on my blog, or even at other places β there are lots of smiles around. π
I hope people start using it a lot more after reading your post. Thanks for sharing this with us. π
Hi Harleena,
Can you show me how the smiley looks on your post. I will see to it if I can help in fixing. As my theme also doesnβt interpret the smiley in well manner but I have changed it through CSS. Show me how your theme shows the smiley in the post.
Hi Atish,
Thanks for your help, though I think I need to ask the Theme people before I touch or play with those scary CSS β Iβve no idea whatsoever how they work π
But yes, I rarely use smileys now, though sometimes they just have to be used. I used them in this post http://www.aha-now.com/14-ways-to-take-care-of-elderly-people/ β as you can see the line shifts a little below the usual.
Thanks:)
Yes I saw that. Same in my theme then I did by removing the border code from CSS. We just need to remove the border around the smiley. Infact, I have checked doing on your site by inspect element feature of browser and it was done but doing it on live. you need to remove one line of code from CSS. If you ever want to do then do let me know otherwise its fine! Thanks.
Awesome Atish π
I just did what you told, in-fact I told my hubby to do it as heβs better than me in CSS at least. And all of this was only possible because you pin-pointed and mentioned what exactly was needed to be done β or else I would never have really known. But because of this even the borders are removed from all images used in the post β and I think that itβs looking pretty alright even now.
Thanks so much for your help Atish β much appreciated π
Thats cool! You may ask for help any time Maβm. I always ready to help as much as I can! Good to know that you have done with it! π Enjoy!
Hi Harleena,
Nice to see someone who likes smileys in the posts! π
I hope the Mr techie (Atish) will soon resolve your problem so that you can start smiley blogging! π
I suppose the only time you wouldnβt include a smiliey is when youβre commenting on something very sad or serious. Apart from that, I always use one π
Soo true Sara, during a serious conversation, you might not be able to use smileys; and may be for a sad comment you might add ( π ) π
Hi zainil,
You have written such a nice article. I think smiley is the best the option that we can use to interact with people personally and emotionally. :-)))
Hey Swapnil! Thanks a million for such an amiable comment ! π
Why So serious huh ? π π
I read the post and finally made a conclusion.. Why people write the post like , they are damn serious.
Adding smilies to the post makes them alive according to me.. When ever I read any post.. I
enjoy it when some smiles comes and try to make me predict the emotions from the line π
Well asked question Zainil π
and @Sara I agree with your comment. Use the sword where its required π
just kidding there is no sword.. I have only keyboard to type π
π π π
Aare its been over 2-3 weeks that I had written this post and dint publish.. Even I thought that the post it serious & I have always liked to write fun loving posts (most of them being giveaways, ofcourse π ) ! π π
But apparently Atish liked this post a lot, thus he was getting on my nerves to publish asap, thus finally I published it today! π
But 1 thing was sure, I always had this question, why people donβt use smileys in posts!?!?!?
I soon which that I could read TOI with smileys! π
Thanks Nirmala for liking the post! π
Between I still think that, people are of the view that, smileys look unprofessional, I really donβt know why !?!?! I have always enjoyed having smileys in the post, they really make the post colorful! π π
I really wish to see a day, where all the blogs will have smileys in the post, bloggers chucking the sense on professionalism and making the blog post look cooler to their readers by adding smileys in it! π
Nice article Zainil. I am not sure why Atish is having issues with enabling the smileys in your theme, I think my blogs do show them without any issues, thought i havent paid much attention to it until now, after reading this post π
Anyways, as you have said, it is nice to see them around in every post and especially in the comments, which even shows us how the reader felt about the article, whether he was π or π .
Thanks for sharing.
No I donβt have any problem fixing the smiley border thing. Even I had it in my blog and fixed that. Harleena is having same issue. If she ask me to do then I can do it in seconds. Just need to remove a line of code from CSS.
Hi Praveen! π Atish is really a cool person over WP, he has fixed all the problem which I keep addressing on regular basis! π I suppose, that we initially had some issues with smileys, there was border besides them, but Atish fixed it then n there! π
Hi Zainil,
Interesting Article, Smiley Word is one of the best method to attract the visitors on your websites.Really Its shows the Emotionalyy Touching. According to me This smiley Word is an apart of the blogs which make you Realize about your Blogs.i am Totally Agree with you dear and I must follow. Well thanks.
Hi Sonia! π I am glad to hear form you that you too like smileys & appreciate the fact that they should be included in the writings! π
Excellent post and i am agree with you. Blogging is a widely used communication media on World Wide Web where people have freedom of speech as a result of which they can easily share their thoughts, knowledge.
Thanks
What a beautiful lesson on how much is out there waiting for us, if we can just learn to trust and leap towards our most fulfilled and authentic version of ourselves. :p
Awesome post Iβm also a little bit addicted to smileys π I use them everytime I really love them thanks for sharing this cool post ! π
Woowww.. then nice too see 2 smileys in your comments, its like +2! π π
Hello Zainil,
I love smileys, but donβt use them that often β I think itβs down to personal taste and style. I guess theyβre a good way to help compensate for the lack of non-verbal communication when youβre communicating with people in writing. Some people probably donβt use them so freely due to lack of know-how β I can do a basic smiley but wouldnβt know how to do all the other variations π
Sue
Hi Sue Neal,
What an interesting comment to read, the comment which I wanted to read! π Totally appreciate your response over the post & agree with your response! π

Best comment ever received! π π
Awesome Leslie! π
Hie Zainil,
You know what I really Like to write/read posts/comments with lots of Smileyssssss and maybe you have noticed whenever I comment at least one smiley for sure theyβre in my comment π
I love to make smileys everywhere on fb, twitter, g+ π and you know whenever you post any article on TTW I love to read it because you put lotssssssssssssss of Smileys their on the posts!!
BTW, Little question in my mind..
We can Put smileys when we are writing about our Experiences/ Blogging or other Niches But when we are writing about TECH Is that look cool if we put smileys in between.
Let us suppose we are writing about a review on mobile then is that really work we put a smiley in between itβs description I mean this may lead to irritate readers? Donβt you think?
One more thing when we put Smileys on our posts or I think anywhere it looks the post is living and we the feeling of the writer of that post can be seen easily via Smileys !! How one is feeling during the writing process and whatβs going in his/her mind.
BTW, ZAINIL can you show me your favourite Smileys? π
And Atish Bhaiya you too! π
~Sugandha! π π π π
favorite smileys -> ofcourse with goggles -> π ! π π
About the smileys in the tech posts, say like a review; as of now, I totally agree with you smileys shouldnβt be there in the review part, or rather the smileys shouldnβt be clubbed with the specification, or feature description part.
But ofcourse, in the introduction and conclusion of such post, you can always express your views in the form of smileys..
Apart, I just checked few of the review written by me, & found that, when I have described the feature of a particular software/gadget, I have added smiley on it, say like, if a particular feature is cool then it 8-), if its good then its π & if its awful then π
I am not sure that if it causes irritation while reading the review with smileys, I really need to test this part, but I am sure that intro & conclusion can be surely with smileys! π
Thanks Sughandha for giving me such a great hint of having disturbance while reading the tech features with smileys! π π
Also please give me further input of yours on my views! π
Hey Zainil,
Itβs an awesome Idea to use Smileys in Intro and Conclusion part.
But Of Course itβs a bad idea to use Smileyβs on Review PART! This will surely Cause irritation while reading any review.
See,
As you Know very Well,
Google is Filled with same kind of Information and if someone is searching about a new phone he will get thousands of links on a same search.
Donβt you think he will just spend his Maximum 5 mins on a single link? and in that short period of time if he see lots of smileys in between he will definitely wonβt click on that link again This may loss for our blog too.. .. (My Point of view and as a reader I never click. Correct me If Iβm Wrong..)
Sure test it..but be careful donβt put lotssssss of smileys as you do in giveaway section..hehhe!! I love it..BTW!!
Sugandha!
no one hates smileys as it shows a good expression thatβs the reason many loves it great share
soo true Rajkumar! π Smileys are just a great creation! π π
Even later when I saw Zainil is using so many smileys in the posts and emails, I too started using it naturally. Now even when I email to my boss or clients I put smileys:) accordingly. Sometimes when a tensed talk is going on in the emails with clients then I use smileys with certain phrases or sentences to make the talk cooler :P.
It really works at times!
Thanks for this awesome debatable post Zainil!
Hehehee.. smileys to boss β hehehee..
In my office, even βhiβ is said to be an informal mail, thus just cant even think of using smileys there! π My boss had once yelled at me when I had mailed him βHi Sir, β¦ β¦ β¦β π
Yes you are saying right its a crazz..But its a great way to share Knowledge among people..and its gradually increases day by dayβ¦
π π
Smile, it costs nothing!!
That sure is one of the cutest posts I ever read on a tech blog.
I use smileys too. Though not too many of them. Overdoing anything ruins it, I believe.
A few lovely smiles (2-3 of them in a post) actually help enliven it.
Thanks for writing that.
π π π
Very nice topic to read. Yes smile is a good way to make things look easier. I think there is no problem in using smileys in blog posts. π π π
