Why Do Newbie Bloggers Give up Blogging Soon?

Now days, Blogging is ubiquitous across the web. Yes, If you search a particular stuff on the search engines, it returns around 75% of results from blogs only.

The reason behind this is the benefits people get from blogging. Blogging is no longer a hobby only but it turns out to a business model. Many bloggers are out there who are earning a living through it.

As people see other bloggers earning well from their blogs, they do start their blogs also without knowing the fact that how much time, energy and effort it takes to earn a living. Most of the times this leads to disappointment for those people.

The reason of writing this post titled why do newbie bloggers give up blogging soon is my experience with my fellow newbie bloggers. As I always get emails and chats from many newbie bloggers in which they ask for some help, I get to know many of them who are striving either to blog well or to make fast cash out of it.i-give-up

Due to continuous talks and discussions with those newbies I came to know why many newbie bloggers end up with nothing. Very few of them succeed because they don’t give up.

I am here to discuss the reasons which lead them to leave blogging so soon. Here are the reasons below:-

Only Money making mindset

In older days people used to start blogging as hobby and later they monetize their blog to make money but now days many newbies start their blog with a mindset to make fast cash. Just working for 10-15 days they keep on asking to their mentors or sr. bloggers something like “I am not making any money how to earn” / “How to get more clicks on my adsense” / “how that blogger is making so much money ” etc.

As we all know blogging is a process that takes time to yield results but those newbies having only money making mindset have no patience at all to wait for long and they give up.

My Suggestion:

Everyone wants to make money from his work and same bloggers want too but in this profession you should have to work hard and then gradually you will be earning well but without working hard blogging is not going to be fruitful to you. Start doing rather than dreaming for money only.

!work hard and have patience!

Lack of Traffic

Traffic is the food for a blog. No blog can sustain without traffic specifically organic traffic. There are many sources of traffic such as Referral, organic, paid and direct. Referral traffic is easy to get but organic is tough to get. Organic traffic is the traffic comes from search engines.

For better organic traffic you need to know the basics of SEO because it ensures that your blog get some search engine traffic. Sadly, in the most cases newbies lack in SEO and even if they do know the basics they don’t put effort to do better on page SEO and then build quality backlinks. They just start thinking that they cannot get good traffic because they cannot do good SEO for their site rather than starting to learn those stuffs which might help them start getting traffic flow to their site.

Still if those newbie bloggers wait for the right time and work both ON site and OFF site then they can drag traffic to their site sooner or later because nothing is impossible. But sadly many of them have no patience which leads them to quit blogging soon.

!Stop giving excuses to yourself rather find solution!

Monitoring Adsense more than Analytics

Those newbie bloggers who have already got their adsense approved and even they are getting very less earnings, they do use to check their adsense multiple times a day rather than checking and analysing traffic stats in Analytics.

As they see Adsense is performing badly they get demotivated which further leads them to quit from blogging.

They should focus more on analysing traffic stats by checking their Analytics because from their they can get idea as what kind of traffic they are getting, which keywords are sending more traffic, which and what kind of posts are performing better etc. Analysing these things can give them an idea to plan the further planning and working on their blog in order to perform better. Monitoring adsense multiple times don’t give anything but disappointment if earning is less (because of lesser traffic).

!Focus on things which is actionable to take blog to the next level!

This is the fact that even knowing the stuffs which beneficial, many newbies don’t put effort because of laziness. They just want some shortcuts to get the instant result which don’t work most of the times in blogging.

!Get up and start doing those stuffs which are beneficial!

It is not the end there are many more factors which lead newbies to end up soon such as lack of knowledge, No goals, No motivation.

[Recommended Reading: How to motivate yourself?]

P.S. Newbies get deviated easily because they do chat with a lot of other bloggers and many of them give good suggestion and many give some inexperienced advice which looks to be more promising but that puts them into the problem.

I want to give message to all of the newbies out there in the blogosphere that stop expecting money instantly rather work well and make a better blog first, grow readership, drag more traffic and put full effort to make one of the best blogs in the blogosphere then start monetizing.

Hope you agree with what I have written in the post! Share your views in the comments.

  • I would say that it is an indeed post for the newbies Atish!

I do agree with your every point. If they’ve set their mind to make money with their blog, they might show less interest in learning new stuffs. Search engine algorithms are constantly changing and they feel lazy to understand them. As you said, they are concentrating much to earn with Adsense and forget to target & reach their audience. If they know how to get the targeted audience through organic traffic, they’ll thrive in blogging and earn money with it.

Yes definitely, the newbies should get rid of their laziness and come up with fresh perspective in every post for their readers.

Thanks for presenting an eye-opener post for the newbie bloggers.

    • Thanks for being agree with my post. Everyone should focus first on learning, building then earning but sadly many newbies want to reach directly to the phase of earning which is almost impossible. Even if they get success, that won’t be consistent and permanent.

Thanks Nirmala for reading and commenting on my post.

  • Hiii Bro,
This is really a well constructed and full-with truth article. The points you mentioned about the reason of – Why Do Newbie Bloggers Give up Blogging Soon? is 100% correct. I have also noticed these things which all the Newbie Bloggers does, specially “Monitoring Adsense more than Analytics”.

Thank you so much for sharing this eye-opening post 🙂

  • Hi Atish,

    A much needed post 🙂

I completely agree with ALL that you’ve written and the very reasons new bloggers tend to give up soon. Most of them enter into blogging for making money, not for the love of blogging and they want to earn those bucks fast. When they can’t, they tend to give up.

Like any other business or work, things take time, and this they refuse to understand. You are right about them seeing their Adsense account, rather than their analytics…lol…and I see so many of them daily sharing their Adsense screenshots on Facebook and trying to compete with the other.

I wish they would stop being lazy, and instead of doing all such things concentrate on writing quality content and their readers would like. Everything else falls into place thereafter.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    • Most of the people who shares their adsense earning screenshots with $X,XX,XXX are fake and when a newbie sees those screenshots they go crazy and easily deviate from their daily blogging schedule. Then they start finding the way to get something like that(even that was fake).

Laziness is one thing which has no place in blogging. If you are lazy then blogging is definitely not for you.

Thanks Harleena for reading the post. 🙂

  • HI Atish brother,

Surely an informative post. And I can facts listed here. Bloggers always think of traffic and money especially new bloggers. So it’s always hard for them to concentrate on content, I know that content is success in blogging. So they forget it.

Even at my start, I am thinking to giveup, but sticked like a lizard to blogging, reading success stories of bloggers like you.

    Thanks for this awesome post.

    • Hi Tharun,

Thinking for making money, gaining traffic isn’t bad but everything should be on time. First we need to learn then implement then try to get benefits of what we do.

P.S. I am not yet successful bro.

  • Hi Atish, this is an exceptionally well written content. Yeah you are right, I recommend bloggers to not even look at traffic for first few months keep on writing. Traffic and money will automatically follow you. Blogging for hobby should be the mindset for first few months.

    Akshay Hallur.

  • Hello Atish,

I agree with your views and these is very correct. Blogging is a way to express our view or knowledge but now a days people thinks that it’s the best way to earn money in short time as you said above. That blogging is not a earning money is all about patience. Thanks for sharing your views with us.

  • Hi Atish,

You are exactly right. I do see many of the newbie bloggers stops blogging soon thinking themselves that they cant achieve the goal.Patience and hardwork is the key to success.I am a newbie blogger too and will take your steps in mind and work accordingly to achieve my goal. Its definetely a motivation post

  • hi Atish, actually i’m a newbie, and really appreciate all your points. sometime i’m just frustrated because of low visitors. your post is just like a motivation for me, and all the way thanks.

    • Thanks Ajay for your kind words. Traffic is one of those reason that frustrate newbies but rather thane getting demotivate they should keep on trying until they make it.

  • Hi Atish,
Another important post for the new bloggers like me. Insightful thoughts. Thanks for sharing

  • I want to say that, there is an other reason…. Most of them dont know how to rank their websites and drive traffic to their blogs…

They end up doing black hat techniques and get penalized by google!! And lose interest in Blogging…!!

    • That is different thing Aditya. If they don’t know they should not even think about earning rather they should learn the stuff first. Thanks for coming by.

  • Yes, I agree with you. Blogging is not a shortcut to make money, every new blogger must keep this thing in mind.

  • Hello Atish Ranjan,

If we think there are thousand of new bloggers daily thinking to joining blogging world, we can see that result in new blogpsot sites. Later they hear a word “SEO” and gets failed to implement it and think blogging is hard.

But they forgot that alphabets are harder in L.K.G class but became easier in 1st standard. On our experience we can change things more better. So thinking to giveup is not an exact idea of blogging.

New bloggers need to learn patience first. Next hard work and later money and fame follows them back.

thanks for sharing these awesome reasons.

    • Please put your name from the next time. Don’t spam!

I agree that the thing which looks harder initially can be easier if we can work over them. Patience is the key!

  • Mostly because they fall into trap of money, which is based on assumption and misleading article by other bloggers that claim that they make a fortune with blogging. Majority of bloggers doesn’t have any goals set, no business plans, no documentent SEO and SMO strategy, no press kit, etc… the list is long.

  • Blogging is about only giving and giving to others without expecting too much from them. If one is doing blogging and he/she thinks that they are not earning form the first day of blogging then I would say that they are absolutely wrong.

From the first day of blogging, a blogger is earning too many things like new friends, developing interpersonal skill like writing and reading skill, developing more knowledge about blogging, seo, search engine etc, getting hand on keyboard 😛 , learning and using new technology about which they can post on their blog…and many more…

If they are not earning too many such things from the first day of blogging then I feel that they should really give up their blog. 😉

Thanks bhai for sharing the exact point for giving up blogging by newbie.

  • I agree with you. Now a days many people especially teenagers are looking for the shortcut ways to make money and selecting blogging to make money. The thing they don’t understand is making a blog an making money out of it needs a lot of patience and hardwork. Now a days teenagers lack the patience and quitting it as soon as they start it.

  • Hello Atish

I came across this article on my Klout feed and I just had to check it. You are truly on point here especially the money making mindset. I have also met a few bloggers who always ask about why they aren’t earning or how much others are earning etc and start comparing their ‘numbers’ with other bloggers. I think new or not-so-new bloggers get so caught up with this that they end up feeling demotivated and eventually give up because they think it’s not worth it anymore.

What they don’t realize is that with blogging (and life in general), you need hardwork to really see its potential, something I’ve learned when I started to get into this so-called-hobby-turned-part-time-job of mine. 🙂 There’s so much to learn along the way and it’s amazing to see bloggers like you share the valuable information and reality above for bloggers.

    Have a great week!

    • Thanks Donah that you finally landed up on my blog. Welcome! Thanks to Klout. You are right! in the beginning we should learn well so that we can make handful of money in the future. You won’t believe it but I have been blogging since 2010 and I am still learning. Earning was started when I was in my 8th month of blogging career. I have waited so long for it and now everything is going smooth.

      Keep visiting my blog Donah.

  • I totally agree to you, the time i started blogging i was so low that i could do anything to increase ranking and traffic to my blog. The main thing is one should never give up.

  • I completely agree with you. Thanks for sharing such a point, it would definitely create awareness among newbie of what all things should be cared about. Though I don’t practice blogging regularly, but it realized me about my lack of interest. Considering these points will definitely inspire everyone to blog successfully.

  • Well, the money constraint is the root of all the evil happening with us in blogging. Few months ago even I wrote a post regarding that blogging is not all about money, it’s much more beyond that. I have seen bloggers getting concerned about adsense more than analytics.
    Thanks for this awesome post.

  • Well Well Atish these are some of the top reasons why my newbies are giving up blogging. I knew many guys starting blogging only because of thinking of getting paid from the very first day. If some one is concerning money more than anything he or she would quit it soon. Thanks for sharing this information with us. 🙂

  • As a newbie blogger (1yr and 3 months) I appreciate your thoughts and all the comments. I think I might add an additional reason as to why newbie bloggers quite blogging and that would be they can run out of ideas what to write about. As for me, I blog because I love my topic and just can’t stop! Some days are tougher than others but I love it. Hopefully this passion will last me long term. You are right, the tech side of blogging can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t have a tech background. I have learned tons just in the short time I have been blogging. As for making money, well that was not my original motivation to start blogging, so it isn’t in my top 3 goals for 2014. Some time down the road perhaps. I’m off to ‘tweet’ your article. Many thanks.

    • Thanks Barb for your insightful comment. Appreciate it. Running out of idea happens with everyone but that can be handled by lots of reading and all. Keep visiting my blog. 🙂

P.S. You are not a newbie anymore as you have completed 1 year already. 🙂

  • I think the most common mistakes newbiw makes is only focusing on money.
They read money making blogs and start dreaming of money $$$$$$

And as we all know money doesn’t come that easily here they quit blogging

  • Hi Atish,
It sounds to me like the underlying issue is that the newbie bloggers lack discipline and commitment to their purpose. The only sure foundation is to have clear sense of purpose. Otherwise, they will fall away faster than a building under demolition. If they make a serious decision to put their energy and attention into it, especially because they love what they are doing, then they will persist.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Atish!
Your post is really great and it’s specially help newbies who don’t aware about these points that you mention in this article but i think if a person have some deep knowledge about any topic and he know a method to write something informative about this topic then he/she easily successful in blogging but your guidance is also useful, keep it up this good work.

    • Writing great articles only doesn’t make you successful but its indeed a plus point if you can write well. Patience, hard work and consistency are they key to get success in blogging.

  • Hi Atish,

Bravo! Thank you so much for writing this post. I deal with many newbies who come to me thinking blogging is a get rich quick idea. They get this information from some black hat marketers that tell them to blog every day and they will make money. NOT SO.

It takes dedication, persistence and patience. As with any business, it is unrealistic to even think that you can set it up online or offline and have money pouring in immediately. Many newbies get tricked into this idea.

I’m so glad that you have written this because I’m an advocate of telling newbies the truth also. Especially those who come to me and tell me they want to set up their blog and make money. I tell them the truth about it first and weed out those who are serious to make the commitment, and those that are not, I tell them to try something else, or give them more forms of education to learn more about the truth.

    • Thanks Donna for your thoughtful comment here. Exactly blogging is not a get rich quick business, in fact no business can make you get rich. You have to work hard to get the fruit.
Even in the older days blogging was being considered as online diary where people share their thoughts but now days it is becoming a business model so if you want to get success in this business you have to work hard with patience and consistency.

Thanks Donna for stopping by. Keep coming!

  • Nice presentation of ideas. Personally, I had the money as the strong motivation force for blogging. And then I realized during my first year of blogging that, it is good to have money as motivation behind blogging, but not to make it sole reason behind blogging. So for now, I don’t think about money and work with purpose on all of my blogs.

    • Exactly, Who doesn’t want the money? Everyone! but in blogging your purpose should be to make a great blog where you can get a good chunk of traffic first then think for monetization. Thanks for coming Nikhil

  • Yes atish i agree. First we must grap traffic about several keywords to attract prospective company to submit ads in our blog. So money we get is a result. The point for me are perseverance & hobby that make us continue to blog. Nice to visit your blog.

  • Great post Atish, in earlier days of my I also once quit blogging for a long time but then somehow I once again tried and it’s going great now.I totally agree on your point of checking adsense more than analytics surely leads to a great disappointment. Crave for readers, money automatically flows in or as Aamir says “Kabiliyat ke piche bhago kamyabi jhak mar ke piche ayegi”..

  • So often newbies compare himself to successful bloggers and internet marketers but they forget , how many years they took to reach this stage ?

On the other hand , everyone has a unique talent gift from god and you just need to identify your hidden talent inside you .

    Atish! great article .

  • Yes, Lack of Traffic and Revenue during the start demotivates a lot of newbie bloggers and urges them to quit it. Persistence is the key to pure success in blogging.

  • This is 100% True “Incomplete knowledge is always Dangerous” Newbie Bloggers haven’t knowledge & I think this is just one reason for Newbie Bloggers Give up Blogging.

  • The point you made regarding patience is especially important. There are far too many people out there who expect immediate results.

  • Hello Atish,

The post made me to think about my initial days of blogging and I almost quit blogging for 6 months and then again I had to start all my blogs to take the challenge.

I believe hard work and consistency is really necessary for blogging for success.

  • Hey Atish,

Boy do I agree with everything you’ve written here.

I think that most people come into blogging with the mindset of making money and/or building a business. I’ve come to learn though through this process myself that we aren’t always given all the information up front coming into this and then so many people realize how darn hard it all is.

As per the suggestions you shared here that does happen to a lot of people. But blogging itself also isn’t just about writing a post and getting traffic. What about all the behind the scenes stuff that people aren’t aware of that will scare anyone to death. Had I known about all of this I can’t say for sure I would be here myself. Yikes!

I think all newbie bloggers should read this post and know that if you truly want to build a sustainable business online that you need to learn from those already where you want to be and stick with it. Trust me, it’s so worth it.

    • Thanks Adrienne for dropping by and reading my post. Thanks a lot for taking time to write comment. Yes blogging is not just about writing articles and getting traffic. There are a lot of things which needs to be cared of such as brand building, relationship building etc.
Thank you so much for your kind words for this post. Means a lot.

  • Hi Atish,
Nice share, I personally believe that there is nothing wrong in checking Adsense and analytics dashboard. We are human and we love to see outcome of our work but one shouldn’t waste his/her time in checking the stats after every 10 minutes.

    • I am not against it Kuldeep but is it worth spending 1 hour in checking earning stats? Does it increase stats? NO right? Rather if you analyse stats in analytics you can make plans to get even better traffic. Do check Adsense once in a day. I think that’s fine for newbies.

      Thanks for your comment mate.

      • Exactly, That’s what I said. One shouldn’t waste his/her time by checking analytics reports. You are right that He/She should analyse the traffic sources, keywords, bounce rate and other factors in analytics dashboard that help to take a site to the next level.
        Thanks 🙂

        • Thanks for your views but I think checking analytics to analyse what kind of visitors your are getting is not a time waste rather you can plan accordingly as what to write to get more engagement on the blog. Thanks for the conversation kuldeep.

  • Hello Atiash,

Most of the people join this as a business not for their interest, if they understand the meaning of blogging so the failure is not occurred and they enjoy it. Thanks for your all suggestions and good to know more about it.

  • Hi Atish,
Thanks for sharing such a great content, actually ita a matter of disqus. Sometimes it feels like your articles in this blog are hangout between friends, a common conversation about your daily life. Blogging is not all about earning big, its about readership and building relationship with followers.

    Thanks again!

  • Hey Atish,
As always your blogs are really insightful and inspiring, as a new blogger I’ve taken time to read your posts for newbie bloggers and it’s helped a ton. For me blogging isn’t about making money, it’s about writing about what you love and are passionate about.
Sharing that passion with others, getting your opinions out there and then being able to talk to others about it is one of the many great things that comes with blogging!
Keep up the good work, looking forward to what you post next!

  • Insightful thoughts Atish. Start doing some activities to take your blog at a very big level, soon you will start reaping the fruits. You can either give up and remain average, or you can stick with blogging for the long haul and achieve success. Don’t quit blogging and give your best on writing blogs.

    • Blogging is good for everything whether it comes for learning or earning. Thanks for your comment Rishabh.

  • Your points are correct and I must add that lack of passion also contribute to newbies quitting the blogosphere before they enter. Passion can drive an individual to give his all even when he is not paid.
Using the wrong mindset (i.e. the mindset of making money) is wrong. A blogger who has the mindset of offering value and solution to visitors will not quit.

More so, lack of planning and projection in blogging results to quick failure. Many bloggers have fallen victim of this!

I have left this comment in kingged.com – the content syndication and social marketing platform for Internet marketers, where this post was shared.

    Sunday – kingged.com contributor

    • If you start a blog with a mindset of money making then it is gonna be a failure. So its good to start with “giving” and later you will be “earning”.
“giving” means to produce great content to your readers.

  • Hi Atish,

You really dealt with this article very well, one of the biggest thing that caused newbie to fail or give up is MINDSET OF MONEY.

“BLOGGING IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK VENTURE”, all newbie needs to know this and to make money from blogging requires both SMART & HARD work.

You mentioned all in this article post and THUMB UP for that Atish

I found the link to this post on Kingged and i have also kingged it on kingged.com

    Have a nice day

    • Thanks Olamosh for reading my post. I agree with your view that it is not get rich quick venture. Keep coming to my blog.

  • Hi there Atish!

Great post you’ve got here, very eye-opening for newbies.

First of all, you’ve got to lay off the money thinking, second, start creating great articles being sensible, helpful, and enjoyable.

Blogging isn’t a fast shot thing, not a one day millionaire, it takes time and hard work. Great tips for newbies, I must say.

Thanks for posting, once again, great article

Have a good day ahead of you!

    • Thanks Ann for your visit. Money making mindset is not good in blogging when you just begin. You can plan monetization for your blog later. keep visiting.

  • I would say it is wrong mind set , a lot of expectations and the money lust that make a new blogger quit very soon.

If you think that Blogging is solely for earning money and it is an easy way to earn some bucks then you are totally wrong. You should quit as soon as possible.

I came from kingged.com and I Kingged this post.

  • Hello Atish,

A nice write up I can say. Blogging is not get rich quick method, it needs patience and hard work as you have stated in the post. Those who have no patience will quit for sure. Thanks for the awesome article.

    • Thanks Sarah for stopping by here. Yes, It takes time to start earning in blogging. Keep visiting my blog most often.

  • Lack of passion is the problem, why most newbies give up blogging too soon. Being a failure is also one reason that I can see here. We know that feeling and to handle it if walking alone in the blogging world is way harder.

Agree with the mindset about money. Money alone. Not a good reason after all, however, we can balance that making money goal and passion with effort and time.

I found this post shared on Kingged.com, the Internet marketing social networking site, and I “kingged” it and left this comment.

  • Nice information regarding failure of blogs. Blogging is a good thing but it really requires a lot of passions to get success. Failure of blogs happens due to lack passions. I am a blogger and was thinking to give up but after reading your article, I have changed my mind.

  • nice post bro, one thing which is mentioned in post is laziness, yes i am also lazy. i will bookmark this post and when i will feel lazy i will again read this post.

  • after stating a new blog the bloggers wants immediate traffic to their sites ,but it never comes that much quicker it will take some time ,every blogger should have dedication towards to his work then only they will succeeded in life and blogging also.so have to know the key-points to get more traffic to his blog by that he will earn some money.you post is so useful for new bloggers ,thank you for your post.

  • Hi Atish,
Great post No doubt all the points which you mention in your article are the real facts for blog failure. Because they come Only for Money making mindset and secondly they just Monitoring Adsense more than Analytics. The reason is that they don’t have any knowledge about Seo.Thanks for sharing with us the real facts of blog failure.

  • Hi Atish,
this is very common for new bloggers.
They are attracted by “easy money online”, they build a site and start making internet marketing.
Then they realize the fast cash do not come overnight, and they just leave.
This is like the same story for 98% of the blogs created every year.

It took me more than 2 years to start making a decent income every month.
Hard work pays off, but you must be patient, and persistent (most of all)!

    Thanks for sharing Atish,
    have a great week.

    • Yes Erik, patience and consistency are the keys to success in blogging. Thanks you stopped by and shared your views.

  • Hey Atish,

Your points are admirable and appreciable. As I do realize the same thing when it comes to the blog.

During the initial phase, at first he/she is unaware of what they are doing. After writing the blog people except for more readers and etc. it doesnt work. In blog what I believe is that your content should be worthy and qualititive and you should follow the niche.

The above factors are more critical and it needs a lot of patience to be achieved which leads a newbies to be demotivated. Yes, you can add some related images to make your blog interesting and attractive and on the otherhand make sure that you update your blog at regular interval of time depending upon the article.

Readers are only and only the CPU of your blog. Hence value your readers and try to attract them with much qualititive and quantitive information. If you are able to do that readers will always be waiting for a new update from your end.

There are many more which I would like to add.. Let it remain for future post 🙂

    • Hello Div,

I agree with your thoughts, content is indeed the most important thing of a blog. There is need to take care of your readers needs and you are good to go.

Thank you very much that you have added your valid points to this post Div. Keep visiting my blog.

  • Yeah. Put all your efforts into reading and writing good post. Forget about what you will get in return.
Again, stay focused and have patience for Patience Move Mountains.

  • Good post again!

I am newbie blogger started to write blog by myself about web hosting services and other web related services. Your post has made me more confident to continue my job and planned to research for more stuff regarding my interested areas.
