All you need to know about the HTC One M9

HTC announced the HTC One M9 which is their new flagship phone at the Mobile World Congress 2015. This phone is a direct competitor to phones from other brands like the Samsung Galaxy S6.

Whenever we see a new successor to a current lineup of phones, we expect some new and useful enhancements which overcome the missing stuff in the older device and provide something new.

Same is the case with the HTC One M9.

Gone are the years when the phones were judged on the basis of the specification they came with. Specifications only look good on the papers while the real thing that the users interact with is the software running on the device.

Android being an Open Source mobile OS, allows the OEMs to alter the looks and some features to provide a different experience to the users which differentiates the phones from other manufacturers.

Why such a hype for the One M9?

HTC never really became a company that created a long term buzz around the world. Some of their phones were exceptional while others were just stupid.

Software part of the devices also wasn’t great and the older versions of Sense UI didn’t really click with the users.

The launch of the first HTC One device i.e. HTC One M7 changed the game and made HTC quite popular. Saving the company was a possibility now.

The HTC One M8 was also welcomed by people. It was such a nice looking device. It felt great in hands, it looked great, it carried some amazing specifications and the software part was great too.

What’s so new in the HTC One M9?

The specifications do look great and they work well on the device to provide the top of the line experience to the users.

Let us check what exactly are the new things as compared to the HTC One M8 that the new HTC One i.e. HTC One M9 brings to the table.

Camera has always been a problem with the HTC One models since the first phone in the series. The M8 didn’t have a good camera too and when it was compared to other phones in the same price range, it fell short when it came to the camera part of the device.

The earlier versions of HTC One carried the Ultra Pixel camera which were good in theory but really random when it came to real life usage. They didn’t perform well and low light pictures were not that good.

In the new HTC One M9, HTC decided to bring the Ultra Pixel camera to the front and provide a 20.7 MP rear camera for better performance.

The results not only look good on paper but the rear camera actually is better than the older models.

The front facing camera is a 4 MP shooter that features Ultra Pixels and a wide angle lens suitable for taking some great selfies.

Sense UI 7.0

HTC provides their own customized skin on top of their Android phones which is called the Sense UI.

It is basically a collection of features and looks alterations that make the version of Android running on HTC phones their own and differentiate them from other devices from other manufacturers.

The HTC Sense UI wasn’t a great UI since the inception and it has undergone many changes since it was first introduced.

There was always a love hate relationship when it came to the opinions of users about the Sense UI. Some people liked it, some complained about it and some didn’t care actually.

But to be honest, it lacked many things but when the first HTC One M7 was launched, the Sense UI 5.0 brought some really great stuff on the table.

The current HTC One M9 runs the Sense UI version 7.0. Let us take a look at what new things it comes with.

You get an enhanced version of HTC Blinkfeed and other useful HTC apps. The new version of Sense also comes with a Theme Engine and you can apply any theme across the device to give the user interface of the device a totally new look.

Other than these things, HTC’s Dot View Cases can also do many interesting things with the help of Sense 7.0

Processor and RAM

The HTC One M9 comes loaded with Snapdragon 810 which is an octa-core processor which is supported by 3 GB RAM.

The combo of the Snapdragon 810 along with 3 GB RAM provides a platform where ever the heaviest of the applications would be able to run properly. So whatever you decide to use this phone for, for taking selfies or for playing games, it will perform well.

Design & Build Quality

The HTC One devices are known to have amazing build quality and great choice of material. The new HTC One M9 looks quite similar to its predecessor but it has some enhancements that people will notice and appreciate.

HTC has made some subtle changes in the design to make it more user friendly.

The new One M9 has more subtle edges and a metal surface that is less slippery. The phone’s design has become more comfortable to hold it and use it with one hand.

The use of the metal and the feel that it provides proves that the phone has an amazing build quality.

A good design coupled with a good build quality is a plus point, definitely.

HTC BoomSound with Dolby Digital

The HTC BoomSound front facing speakers are already known for providing one of the best audio speaker quality on Android devices and this time HTC has partnered with Dolby to provide a better audio experience to the users. For multimedia enthusiasts this is a blessing.

HTC Dot View Cases

The phone cases are known to provide extra bulk to the phones and many people don’t like it because it hides the aesthetics and beauty of a phone.

But what if you get the ability of customizing and stylizing your Case and make it look like something you created?

HTC Dot View cases provide the same functionality. Along with protection to the device, these cases provide some extra functionality like looking at the name of the caller without looking at the screen itself.

The HTC Dot View cases have holes through with the screen lights up to create patterns like time, caller ID, notifications etc.

Final Conclusion:

If you are planning on to buy a high end smartphone with strong specs and great looks, HTC One M9 is the best choice for you. It will surely give you a fresh feeling of using a smartphone.
