Choosing a Cell Phone Carrier for Dummies

Recent studies have concluded that some of us just can’t live without our cell phone; in fact, it even makes others feel “unsafe” when they don’t have it. Suffice to say, the phone has become an integral part of our daily lives and few would disagree when we say that one of the most frustrating times is when we just can’t receive network coverage, or something else with our carrier is playing up.

It’s for this reason that the choice in carrier is probably one of the most important we’ll make, to a certain extent. For some, it will affect their livelihood, while for others it will just toy with their personal life. The point of this post is to take a look at all of the factors that impact which carrier you opt for and as you’ll soon see, it’s certainly not a one-fits-all type of decision.

Coverage

For most readers, this will be the primary factor to base their decision on. It doesn’t matter if you are paying a few dollars extra every month, you won’t mind if you can guarantee your network coverage.

Of course, this part of the decision-making process will vary between readers. It’s a well-known fact that some carriers are more dominant in certain areas and while they may have an awful reputation in one city, in another they might be the best thing since sliced bread. This is where you need to consider just how you are going to use your phone; are you a globe-trotter, or will you mainly be using it in the one region?

Legal Reputation

One issue that some readers might not take into account is the legal standing of a company. Over the last few years phone carriers have become even more tightly regulated than they once were and it’s much more difficult for users to get stung on hidden charges or fees. There are also various licenses that have to be obtained and such legal protocols means that carriers are now investing a lot of money in departments which can manage these issues and keep them on the right side of the law. Phone Selection

While we may have placed a lot of attention on the coverage factor, we shouldn’t forget that some users will base their decision purely on what phones the network supports. Some don’t have the necessary contracts to offer certain brands, while others don’t have the service plans either. In terms of the latter, BlackBerry has its own internet service and some carriers just aren’t able to cater for this. Therefore, it’s certainly another area to research.

Customer Service

It doesn’t matter what industry we’re talking about, one of the most frustrating things for anyone is a poor customer service experience. Mobile carriers can be some of the worst offenders for this and while it might seem quite a minor consideration at first, anyone who has struggled in the past with poor customer service through their mobile plan will tell you that it’s an absolutely essential factor to take into account.

  • You’re right atish, even the young kids are also seeks first for mobile rather than their feeding bottles…

  • Choosing a carrier comes down mostly to who you can afford. Companies with better coverage nationally will have a higher plan price, while companies with a small presence will have a cheaper price.

But if your sell phone is your main phone, you have to make sure it works in places where you spend a lot of time, like at work, school and home.

For the most part, most major phone releases come out on all carriers, Samsung was the first to really do this and that’s why their first Samsung phone sold so well while Apple had their iPhones stuck on AT&T. lol that seems like a life time ago.
