10 Best Alternatives to Avast Antivirus

If you use a computer system or a smartphone, it is of utmost importance to have antivirus software installed to save yourself from viruses, spyware, and much more. But, since, not all individuals would go out and pay for an antivirus. Thus, there are many free antivirus software available on the internet.

Why Look for the Alternatives to Avast Antivirus?

Avast is one of them, it has been great but there are lots of things I have been reading that it has been spying on its users, and selling many details of its users to marketing companies. PCmag and Motherboard have jointly investigated the issue, and they reach to the conclusion that Avast is doing that.

I am not exactly sure whether it is true or not, but whatever it be, when you hear something like this, you always look for alternatives just to stay safe. And, that is what we are going to share in this blog post.

Avast is by far one of the best free Antivirus solutions currently available (Of course, it offers you paid options as well). But, recently the service has become a risky affair to opt for because of the spying allegations against it as mentioned above.

There have been reports that the popular security service provider has been harvesting user data. Avast claims that the data is being de-identified before being passed on to the third party services such as Google and Microsoft. But, it still carries the risk because of the possibility of linking back once the data has been sold to the third parties.

The studies and investigations from PCMag and other reputed publications have indicated that the data is being harvested without the permission from its users. The client list that Avast sells this data to cover its cost includes big names such as Google, Yelp, Microsoft, McKinsey, Pepsi, Sephora, Home Depot, Condé Nast, Intuit.

That made me look for the best alternatives to Avast antivirus. As a result, here are our top searches that yield a formidable list of the best Avast Antivirus alternatives.

Top 10 Best Alternatives to Avast Antivirus

Well, now that we are aware of why you need to migrate from Avast to some other antivirus alternatives, here are our top picks for best among them.

Alternatives to Avast

  1. Avira

While Avira does come with a paid option, you can also install the free version that does not incur any cost. It has been rated to be one of the excellent alternatives to Avast Antivirus according to several AV tests. The antivirus is known to provide you with a high degree of protection and security.

Of course, it does not come with a malware protection feature, but it has been considered to be one of the huge options for taking care of other severe security concerns. The ability to scan and remove viruses in the background and a comprehensive review are a few features that would make it one of the excellent options. It can handle several threats that include viruses, worms, spyware, Trojans, and dialers.

The availability of additional installs such as VPN, browser extensions, and password manager can be yet another added advantage. The package also offers you access to mobile-specific apps for iOS and Android.

  1. Malwarebytes Anti-malware

Malwarebytes anti-malware solution has been considered to be a strong service provider when it comes to fighting malware. That would make it a stronger option for the best alternatives to Avast antivirus. They do have a technologically driven solution to address the malware effectively. There are some differences between Antivirus and Antimalware tools.

The anti-malware can detect the malware functions even before they can begin, and thus protects your system also before you have fallen prey to an attack. The 2014 AV test has indicated that it has been one of the strong players when you come to think of the best protection from malware. It can effectively clear your computer from malware and restore the system effectively.

While the automatic scan and removal are available only under premium plans, the free version provides an unlimited option to detect and destroy malware. What further makes it an excellent choice is it is not heavy on your resources.

  1. Bitdefender

Bitdefender has been one of the best antivirus solutions available on the Windows 10 platform and can be an excellent option for the right alternatives for Avast antivirus. The paid version is one of the perfect options, but still, you would find that it is also equally a great option as a free solution.

The free version of Bitdefender provides you access to complete protection against online frauds and phishing attempts. It has also been observed to be good at fighting the intelligent virus and preventing web attacks. The real-time threat engine on the free version keeps your computer always safer. Of course, the free option does not cover the advanced features such as VPN or a 24 x 7 customer support.

The auto scan mode on the free version scans the system when the system is idle. It isn’t much heavy in handling the resources making it further a great option in the long run.

  1. Norton Security Scan

The Norton Security Scan has been one of the excellent options that would provide you access to a greater flexibility in protecting your system. The AV tests have given it a full score when it comes to protection features, usability, and of course, performance.

The Norton Security Scan is one of the great solutions among the free antivirus services and has been designed to be the best alternatives to Avast antivirus. It consistently analyses your system and can detect the threats right away. Of course, it will not automatically delete the files that it considers to be risky. That is something you need to do manually.

In essence, it is a scanning tool and does not remove the threats. Yet another feature we found extremely useful would include the cookie manager that can detect the dangerous cookies – and thankfully, delete them.

  1. Panda Free Antivirus

That is yet another excellent free antivirus solution and can be an excellent option for the best alternatives to Avast antivirus. It has been one of the excellent options for a complete and efficient free version. The service provides you access to real-time protection against malware or other threats. It can handle almost every type of spyware or malware. You can either opt for a real-time scanning or go with a periodical or scheduled scan. The multimedia game that forms part of the suite should be yet another thoughtful inclusion.

The Cloud antivirus solution should be yet another added advantage. You no longer need to update the system or get pestered with notifications to keep your system updated. It can silently keep working in the background and protect your system.

  1. Sophos Home

Maybe Sophos is an unheard name among the free antivirus solutions, but it does provide you access to a wonderful collection of the best possible antivirus solutions. One of the strongest factors that would make it a great choice would include the multi-device software option. You can protect three of your devices.

It provides you access to an enhanced experience of parental control and real-time protection options. You can also get access to high-level protection against the phishing attacks. The advantages offered by the platform include a simple interface that should suit the newbies best. The software is compatible with multiple operating systems.

Of course, the paid version provides you with an option for installing and using it on ten different computers. The paid version offers features such as email filtering (to stay safe from email scam), bank protection, and advanced ransomware features. In any case, the free version is much good and does provide you with a series of advanced features.

  1. ZoneAlarm

ZoneAlarm is yet another excellent option for the best alternatives to Avast antivirus and is known for the best possible online security. The service provides a wide range of options that include anti-malware protection, real-time protection, and an in-built firewall solution. Ease of use and a simple interface ae a couple of features we found rather an enhanced option.

The web security features offered by the antivirus solution should be one of the best features so that you can continue browsing the internet without hassles. While it offers an excellent functionality on Windows 10, it provides equally good compatibility with previous versions such as Windows 7, 8, or even XP.

The firewall that forms part of the ecosystem should be yet another plus point that is available at no extra cost. You can schedule regular scans or decide to go with a manual scan. The antivirus solution has been rated to have an exceptional service quality in terms of usability and protection.

  1. Total Antivirus

Total AV is one of the best options for the right alternatives to Avast antivirus and provides you access to a complete security solution for Windows, Mac and Android. You can be assured of full security and protection against phishing attacks. That apart, it also has a tool that offers you access to a specialized clean-up tool.

The antivirus solution does provide you access to a browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge that should be yet another thoughtful inclusion. The simple interface and an advanced set of features would be what would make it a great choice. If you are looking for basic protection like Avast, this should be the right one you can go with.

The free version, however, does not come with any sort of technical support or password protection. In any case, it does provide you access to a good functionality.

  1. Kaspersky Free

Kaspersky has always been one of the most popular antivirus solutions. The free version offered by the platform has been one of the excellent ones and a worthy addition to the best alternatives to Avast antivirus. The antivirus has received a six out of six rating for the best possible performance, usability, and protection.

The features available on the free version are a little limited, but that should not mean the service is not bad either. It can protect your device against malware, ransomware, and adware. The tool does provide you access to a series of parental control and a virus scanner. You can even find access to every sort of hidden danger or even take care of suspicious applications.

The improved access to security features and the password manager that can store up to 15 passwords should be a few best features available on the free alternatives to Avast antivirus.

  1. Microsoft Defender

Well, that is exactly one of the excellent options you would find rather impressive and primitive to be on this list. In essence, Microsoft Defender has been a unique option and has grown consistently from what it had been just a few years ago. It has become an authoritative service provider over the years.

Something that forms part of each of the Windows installations, you would get access to full protection against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. Microsoft Defender is known well enough for the high-end real-time protection against every kind of malware. The antivirus solution does not interrupt your normal working, but handles the protection in the background.

Free with no ads, Microsoft Defender brings you world-class performance characteristics. Be assured of a high degree of efficiency of an antivirus solution with the built-in Defender and look no further for the alternatives to Avast Antivirus.
