As technology continues to evolve for the better and new features arise in the industry, consumers can easily get overwhelmed. For those that have dabbled in selecting a hands free headset, the variety and literally thousands of options available can be mind boggling. In order to simplify the process, consumers need to be aware of the available technology as well as understand the user requirements that need to be fulfilled. Below are some of the key essentials to think about, which will limit the selection process down to a minimum in order to select the correct telephone headset.
Ergonomics
Practicing safer ergonomics is key when using a headset in order to prevent bad posture practices creating unwanted body strains. Manufactures design systems available in all wearing styles including traditional over the head and over the ear designs. Advanced users also have the choice of selecting a convertible design which offers both wearing styles and in some cases includes an all exclusive behind the neck band. Convertible systems aren’t just designed for the elite user but entry level callers as well, providing all available styles enabling the user to select their own personal preference. Determining which wearing style is preferred for maximum comfort, helps limit the available models down to a minimum for a faster selection process.
Connectivity
Technology increases over the past year alone have incorporated advanced features enabling a single system to inter-connect with multiple devices. Three in one and dual-connect models were released this past year for establishing hands free communication with desk phones, computers and Bluetooth smart phones. There are also select dual connect models available mixing any of these two devices together. The breakthrough technology increases efficiency while simplifying unified communications, with the use of a single headset for all devices. Knowing what technology is available certainly helps the selection process. This is a very important step to selecting the right system suitable for our needs. During this process users should be aware of future requirements, as the available technology may be required to meet future demands.
Flexibility
Increased mobility and advanced multi-tasking benefits are among some of the most important factors to using a hands free headset. Corded systems will apply these advantages with limited capacity ranges within the work space. Cordless systems allow callers to roam free in the office including ranges of up to 500 feet. Both offer hands free mobility however there is a huge difference between the two. The obvious factors here are considering how much time do you spend away from your desk? For those that specifically answer calls while at their work station would require a corded headset while managers and callers constantly on the go in the office would probably prefer a cordless headset.
Work Environment
Considering your work environment and office setting is a crucial step to this process. Advanced technology is available to help limit background noise creating ultimate clarity for those that need it. Callers in heavy call centers and very loud offices require a noise canceling system which would help eliminate distracting noise. CEO’s and office managers in closed offices do not require this feature but, it is still highly recommended. Wireless users need to be aware of other devices in the work space that could cause interference such as internet routers so finding a system operating on another frequency is preferred.
Advanced Technology
Now that you have the basics covered and have moved up in the user rankings, there are a variety of advanced features available for elite consumers. Some of the most notable technology recommended to ensure the best user experience include remote answering, noise reduction, stereo sound innovation and just introduced Dolby 7.1 surround sound. Mono single ear and Binaural double ear designs are also available for those that may listen to music or watch videos online. Call centers operating using soft phone applications such as Cisco, Avaya or Skype have the option of selecting a system specifically optimized for these platforms.
Conclusion
There are many factors that help in selecting the correct system to meet your needs and it all starts with proper education. Once informed of the technology currently on the market and available user options, you will be prepared to select the ideal option to satisfy your hands free user experience.

I was thinking of purchasing a Chinese manufactured Bluetooth headset because branded ones are too expensive. But after reading this articles I think it would really be a waste of money to buy the Chinese one. After all, quality only comes at a price.
They are a real comfort if small in size. But way too costly. I am looking to buy one for myself. I don’t want to remove my iPhone from pocket just to attend call in a public area.
