Highest Earning Websites Of 2012


It’s all about vitamin M. The giants over the Wild web are also competing over money. The financials of 2012 are out, and the most shocking news is that, the social media king, Facebook in not in the top 10 list! 8-0 Facebook has been ranked on the 24th position with the revenue of $300 Million.

Let’s now check the list of top 10 earning websites of 2012:

Google

Google: This search engine giant founded by Larry Page and Sergey Bin in 1998 is a well known word in front of each and every person who uses the internet. This site it the world’s top search engine and is far ahead in trust and fame in comparison to its competitors. Rather it has become a basic need of everyone nowadays. This website earned revenue of $22 billion in 2012 which makes it the top earning website of the year. We are hopeful that it will continue the same this year as well.

Amazon

Amazon: Amazon is the world’s top retail website. It has continued to retain it position since years. The company was founded by Jeff Beroz in 1994 with the purpose of saving time taken to visit the market to buy daily use items. The idea became a grand success with time. The website generated revenue of $19.2 billion last year.

Yahoo!

Yahoo: Contrary to preconceptions that Yahoo is dead, reports state it as the second highest earning search engine after Google and the 3rd highest earning website overall. The concept of Yahoo was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo in 1994. The reason it is still on the top despite Google’s success is the extra incentives it provides. The website is generating revenue of $7.2 billion every year.

eBay

eBay: This website is basically intended for auctioning and deals in almost everything new or second hand. This concept was founded by Pierre Omidyar in 1995. eBay is a well known name along every buyer and seller worldwide. It generated revenue of $ 6.3 billion in 2012.

MSN

MSN: MSN is Microsoft’s portal. It is the hash up of all that Microsoft has to offer. Since Microsoft products are still the top selling ones among their competitors, thus MSN gets the advantage of being a highly visited website. It is the 5th highest visited website indeed. The portal was founded by Nathan Myhvoid along with Microsoft. It generated a revenue of $3.2 billion last year.

PayPal

PayPal: Paypal is a site that eases money transfer around the globe. Almost every person who needs to transfer money abroad for any reason uses Paypal. It is highly secure and this make it a far better choice as compared to its competitors. Paypal was founded by group of 5 friends Ken Howery, Peter Theil, Luke Nosek, Max Levchin and Elon Musk in 1998. It earned a revenue of $2.25 last year.

iTunes

iTunes: iTunes is apples official music downloading website cum online media player cum music news searcher. In short it is the best entertainment site worldwide. This makes a very valid reason to justify why people are visiting it so often. It is a venture by apple which was founded by late Steve Jobs in 2001. The website generated a revenue of $1.9 billion in 2012.

Rueters

Reuters: Ever read the source line above any international headline in the daily newspaper. It will say Reuters. Reuters is basically a news agency situated in London and takes the responsibility to publish international news. Since it is the most reliable news source, thus its web portal is the world’s highest visited portal. The agency was founded by Thomson Reuters in 1851 and the website in 2008. It earned revenue of $1.9 billion last year.

Priceline

Priceline: This website deals in travel related transactions. It was founded by Jesse Flink in 1997. One can use it to make online purchases of hotels and tickets. The website generated a revenue of $1.85 billion last year.

Expedia

Expedia: Expedia is one of the best website for making online travel related purchases but unlike Priceline.com, it deals in everything that a customer may need during the trip. Even inland taxi travel, general purchases, etc… Expedia generated a revenue of $1.45 billion in 2012.

    I’m confused here, You mentioned Google earned $2.2 billion in 2012, Amazon earned $19.2 billion, Yahoo earned $7.2 billion, ebay earned $ 6.3 billion, MSN earned $3.2 billion and PayPal earned $2.25 billion.

    So if you look all these earnings, all sites earning more than Google. But still you mentioned Google as top earner of the last year. Why?

  9. Wow. Google has topped the list one more time. It is certain nobody can defeat Google. I read an article where it was mentioned that Google is earning about $1000 per second. It is just unbelievable.
