RSS news feeds is the most effective means of keeping track of your favorite news website without having to log on every hour and wade through a list of bookmarks manually. These files create feeds that supply headlines, links and sometimes summaries of the news items. The files consist of channels of information without elaborating and other websites can integrate the site’s updates using the RSS feed. This creates backlinks for the news website and also increases content of the second party website, thereby increasing utility of both.
The following steps will make using RSS news feed a breeze:
Choosing a Reader
For those who are absolute beginners, you must first choose a RSS news feed reader. There are several software download websites from where you can get one. Check reviews and deliberate before purchasing. Two types of readers are there- standalone (which you can fill up as you feel, but it has to be open in your computer) and plug-in (which works within a browser, so you don’t need an extra program running, but it may slow down the browser).

Installing the Reader
Next step is to install the RSS news feed reader. It involves different processes for standalone and plug-in. When you launch the standalone reader, it allows you to add the websites whose feed you need. Whenever a new update happens, it will show it instantly and some can even be configured to send you emails. Plug-in readers show the related URLs and a brief description within the browser.
Add Your Desired Channels
All RSS news feed readers have a few default channels installed. To add your favorite news website to it, visit the RSS page of the website (most news website have one) and copy the XML code. Now go to your reader again and add the code under the New Channel option, selecting the News category under files menu.
Modify the Feed
You have to tweak around with your RSS news feed reader to make sure that the news you actually want to read does not get lost in the stream of updates that news websites usually keep up. You can use a filter so that only specific news comes into your reader. You can delete some of the old feed that you no longer want. Most readers note this change and does not allow any more updates from the same publisher until sought for again.
So, despite the very technical appearance of RSS news feed, it can be easily used by anyone who likes to tweak around their computer looking for something new.
